|| An Alaskan Adventure || My New Home

Yep, that's right.  I moved from my beloved Ann Arbor (Michigan) to embark upon a new adventure in Sitka (Alaska). I am still receiving packages that I mailed to myself so that I could avoid parting with some dear craft treasures.  My latest packages include my sewing machine (Alfred made the trip) and my serger.  Both were greatly missed as I day dreamed between walks around the island about beautiful outfits I wanted to make.

A little about my new home Sitka. It is an island with about 8,000-9,000 people, making it the 4th largest city in Alaska. It is in southeast Alaska and is closer to Seattle, Washington than Anchorage, Ak. It does not have any major department stores. (Uh-huh, that includes craft stores!)

Luckily, I did manage to save some of my fabric, but I will also be challenging myself to create more using thrift store finds (they have two very tiny ones here).  Progress on my sweater halted for a bit, but I found some knitting allies on the island who should encourage me to continue and finish it up.

Landing in Sitka, after 21 hours in airports and on planes, nighttime and rain obscured most of the views of my new home. I awoke, however, to the briny scent of sea and fish, which is when it hit me..."I'm in Alaska!?!" I then spent the next week exploring the island, walking the docks, and hanging out in the national park.

I've already been on several snapshot scouting trips around town.  As I post pics of future in-progress or finished projects, I hope to give everyone a taste of my new island life!
